When is the deadline to apply?
Our application is now open all year round as volunteers will be matched to our community partners when there is a need.
Can I choose to volunteer in person or WhatsApp?
Yes. You may indicate your availability and preference in the form.
Do all the children in the programmes have gadgets?
Most children in the programmes use their parents’ phones.
Is there a set day and time for the volunteering sessions?
The set day and time will be decided by our LitHubX partners based on the students’ schedules. You can state your availability in the registration form and we will match you accordingly.
May I know which areas your LitHubX partners are from?
Our LitHubX community partners are based in various states in Malaysia.
I am currently residing abroad. Am I still eligible to volunteer?
Yes, over WhatsApp, and if the time difference permits.
Is there any age limit to be a LitHubX volunteer?
Yes, you would have to be 18 years old and above to volunteer.
How long is the programme duration? Can I volunteer long term (more than 14 weeks)?
A programme cycle is usually 28 weeks and we require our volunteers to commit to at least half a cycle (14 weeks) to ensure that the child reads consistently with the same volunteer(s). We gladly welcome long term volunteers!
Do all volunteers need to have a copy of the MYReaders workbook? How can I get one?
No, we do not require volunteers to have a copy but you can purchase it here.
Will I receive a certificate for volunteering?
Certificates are provided at our community partner’s discretion and with the fulfilled minimum volunteering commitment.
Can I reschedule my reading session if I’ve an emergency?
Do inform the LitHubX Partner coordinator as soon as possible and they will coordinate with the parents to reschedule.
How important is it to have proficiency in other languages (besides English)?
We will prioritise volunteers who speak the mother tongue of the children and parents in the programmes as they may find it difficult to understand English instructions during the WhatsApp classes.
Do I need to know phonetics in order to teach?
No, you will be required to go through our online self-paced training where we will train you on how to use our modules. Our modules are written in a way that makes it easy for volunteers/parents with no phonetics background to teach a child.
Do volunteers receive an allowance or stipend?
This is an unpaid volunteering opportunity.
How many students will I be teaching throughout the 14 weeks?
One. You will read with the same child throughout as we believe that the consistency of pairing helps build trust and rapport between the volunteer and student.
Are there any other ways that I can help?
Definitely!

Collect refurbished gadgets to be donated to some of the children in our programmes
Buy our books for yourself/family/friends or to be donated to our partners
